How did you come up with a list of 2,235 species living in Cambridge? The 2,235 organisms you will see at bit.ly/cambridgespecies were observed and identified by citizen scientists, professional scientists, and curators on iNaturalist. Naturalist (“iNat” for short) is a joint initiative by the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society. iNaturalist co-sponsors the annual City Nature Challenge, a global observation event.
Who can enter the CCNAC? Grades 1–8 students only who are Cambridge Public Schools students, students in one of the three Cambridge charter schools, or children enrolled in OST programs operated by the Community Art Center of Cambridge, the Agassiz Baldwin Community, Cambridge Community Center, East End House, and Margaret Fuller House.
How does a child/young person enter the art challenge? The entry form is also a permission form that must be signed by a parent or guardian. Who is in charge? Two nonprofit organizations, Green Cambridge and Cambridge Local First. Cambridge Wildlife Arts is Green Cambridge’s arts-based environmental education program that administers the program.
